Why does my peptide look like a powder, puck, or clumps?

Normal appearance of lyophilised peptides — what to expect inside the vial.

Updated today

Peptides are supplied as lyophilised (freeze-dried) powders. The appearance can vary between batches and products. You may see:

  • A fine loose powder

  • Small clumps

  • A compact powder "puck" at the bottom of the vial

  • A slightly hardened or solid-looking powder

  • Small fragments stuck to the sides of the vial

All of these are normal for lyophilised material and don't indicate a product issue. The freeze-drying process and the conditions during shipping (vibration, temperature changes) can both affect how the powder settles inside the vial.

Is the vacuum seal supposed to make a sound?

Some vials have a vacuum seal that makes a soft hiss when opened, others don't. Either is normal — vacuum seal isn't a quality indicator.
